Moscow - Russia

undefined

Moscow has a population of 11 million inhabitants and is Europe's largest city. Moscow, the economic and cultural centre of Russia, has been influenced by Asian as well as European culture. Alongside of the skyscrapers and numerous renovated residential and business complexes that make up the cityscape are cosy cafés, artist studios, quaint alleyways and beautiful parks. Moscow is one of the biggest winners of the reforms of the past years.

A cultural highlight of Moscow is Red Square, an icon of Russian history. Many visitors travel from thousands of miles away just to walk upon this famous paved area, on which the Soviet Union demonstrated its power with military parades in the past. The cityscape is also characterised by several other medieval buildings such as the Kremlin, the Basilius Cathedral, and the Archangelskoje Castle.

Moscow was founded in 1147 by Yuri Vladimirovich Dolgoruki, the Prince of Susdal. From the 15th to the 17th century Moscow was the capital of Russia, before Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg. In 1922 Moscow officially became the capital of Russia once again.
