La Antigua is the former capital of Guatemala in Central America, and is a popular destination for tourists from around the world. The city, population 32,000, owes its beautiful colonial cityscape to its world culture legacy. Downtown you will find restaurants, hotels, bars and shops. Also of interest to language students is the ideal ambiance of La Antigua.
Near the city you'll find more volcanoes, some of which are still active. The Pacaya, an active volcano, can be climbed on foot, and offers a breathtaking view of the city and the landscape. Three other volcanoes, Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango, which are no longer active, are about 4000 meters high and build a beautiful panorama around the idyllic colonial city.
