Oaxaca - Mexico

The city of Oaxaca is located approximately 500 kilometers south of Mexico City in the middle of the Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains. Because of the mysterious historical sites that the pre-hispanic Mixtec, Zapotec and Mitla people left behind, Oaxaca has been named a World Heritage Site. Oaxaca, which has a population of 235,000 inhabitants, has retained the character and special charm of an Indian city.
The city of Oaxaca was founded in 1529 by Spanish immigrants, and its cityscape is to this day still characterised by Spanish culture. Historical Colonial palaces, the famous Plaza Zocalo, old churches and romantic alleys all reveal Spanish origins. Even the vibrant nightlife, with its Mexican rhythms, stems in part from Spanish culture.
